Unicamp’s Medical School receives a grade of 5 in the National Medical Training Assessment Exam

The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FCM) at Unicamp received the highest possible score (5) in the first edition of the National Medical Training Assessment Examination (Enamed) – a modality of the National Student Performance Examination. (Enade) For medical courses. The Enade Concept indicates the quality of higher education courses in Brazil. Unicamp is the only institution in Campinas in this classification range.

The result was released this Monday (19) by the Ministries of Education (MEC) and Health (MS). Of the 351 courses evaluated across the country, 49 (13,6%) achieved the maximum score, which means that the percentage of proficient students was equal to or greater than 90%.

“This result is a source of great pride and is the fruit of the work of the entire Unicamp health complex, which stands out as a leader in the Campinas Metropolitan Region, being the only institution with the highest rating. Without a doubt, it is an effort by the FCM and medical students who seek to offer quality healthcare to their future patients,” analyzes the Pro-Rector of Undergraduate Studies, Mônica Cotta.

Cotta also said that the achievement is the result of a continued effort to invest in Unicamp’s service capacity. “We are looking towards the medicine of the future; we are not a course stagnant in time, we are continuously qualifying and innovating,” he assessed.

According to the director of FCM, Cláudio Coy, the result confirms the long-term investment in quality higher education and stems from the efforts of the University’s management, faculty, staff, and students.

“The Faculty invests heavily in faculty development and assessments. In recent years, there has also been a significant investment in simulation laboratories for patient care, and all of this has been reflected in this result,” said Coy.

The director emphasized that a curriculum reform at FCM promises to further improve student performance. “We are entering the fourth year of implementing this change. This constant improvement at the Faculty shows why it is highly sought after in university entrance exams.”

Coy stated that the reform seeks to incorporate important issues relevant to the current scenario into the curriculum. One example is the subject of Digital Medicine. Furthermore, the Faculty has extended the internship period for students from two to three years, meaning they will now have practical learning experiences for half of the course, starting in the 4th semester. “This is a major differentiator.”

Coy pointed out that the result highlights the difference in the quality of teaching between medical courses, suggesting the need for regulation and monitoring of performance. “The Exam assesses whether graduating students from medical schools have the competencies outlined in the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCNs). If the institution performs well, it means it is complying with these guidelines,” he stated.

The evaluation of the courses is based on the performance of students participating in the Enamed exam, which consisted of 100 multiple-choice questions. According to the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), more than 89 people – including students and medical professionals – took the Enamed 2025 exam, administered on October 19th. Of these, 75% achieved a passing grade. proficient (with concepts 3 to 5).

The exam will be administered annually and is mandatory for graduating medical students. The results may also be used for selection in the National Residency Exam. (Enare).

During the announcement of the results, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, reinforced the role of Enamed as a diagnostic tool for medical training in the country. “What we are evaluating is whether the courses have good infrastructure, whether they have tutoring, laboratories, and good professors. And we can only do this by evaluating the results and also by engaging in dialogue with the institutions so that they can improve.”

For the federal government, results based on performance standards provide more complete information to support policies for regulating, supervising, financing, and promoting the quality of courses.

Of the 351 courses evaluated nationwide, 49 (13,6%) achieved the maximum score, equivalent to five.
