The triple ’Cane brings a dynamic blend of clinical expertise, educational leadership and operational insight to her new role.

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has named Sabrina Taldone, M.D., M.B.A., the new associate dean for clinical affairs, effective October 1, 2025. A triple ’Cane and committed clinician-educator, Dr. Taldone brings a dynamic blend of clinical expertise, educational leadership and operational insight to her new role.
Since arriving at UM as an undergraduate in 2006, Dr. Taldone has served a variety of roles: student, resident, faculty member and administrator. She earned her bachelor of science degree in biology with five minors, followed by her M.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the Miller School in 2015, taking advantage of the school’s acclaimed dual-degree programs.
“My studies at UM provided a strong platform from which to grow during my training,” she said. “I served a diverse patient population while working with experts in a supportive environment that encouraged student leadership and volunteerism.”
An Agent for High-Quality Patient Care
The chief of the Miller School’s Division of General Internal Medicine and associate chief medical officer for ambulatory services at UHealth—University of Miami Health System, Dr. Taldone has helped shape systems that deliver high-quality care in outpatient and post-acute settings.
“We provide patients with the support they need to stay healthy in the outpatient setting by focusing on four pillars: improving quality and safety, patient satisfaction, provider satisfaction and operational excellence,” she said.
I am committed to working with the Miller School to achieve new heights in innovative medical education and clinical practice. Together, we will shape medicine for the future.

As associate dean for clinical affairs, Dr. Taldone will report directly to Henri Ford, M.D., M.H.A., dean and chief academic office of the Miller School, and serve on Dean Ford’s senior cabinet. Her responsibilities include supporting clinical partnerships, clinical education and curriculum.
In her operational role, Dr. Taldone will serve as a liaison between the medical school and affiliated teaching hospitals and clinics. She will support clinical site development and maintain strategic relationships with health care partners to ensure high-quality training environments and collaborate with health system leadership to align educational activities with clinical operations.
The Business Side of Medicine
On the educational front, Dr. Taldone will support clinical education across clerkships, sub-internships and longitudinal experiences. As a prominent champion for competency-based medical education, Dr. Taldone will support key initiatives of the Miller School.
Dr. Taldone’s impressive history at the Miller School prepares her well for the role. In her work as co-director of the “Medicine as a Profession” course, she introduced first-year students to population health and health system science, with an emphasis on effective communication.
“Today’s practice of medicine involves much more than patient care,” she said. “I want to ensure that physicians and health professionals are prepared to lead the business side of medicine in a way that is patient-centered and aligns with the values of our profession.”
Her M.B.A. training has also shaped her approach to medical education and encourages a multidisciplinary perspective that welcomes a variety of talents.
“My M.B.A. year, after my third year at the Miller School, gave me the opportunity to work with a cohort focused on different disciplines, including business, engineering and other health care fields,” Dr. Taldone said. “In medicine, we interact in multidisciplinary teams, incorporating the strengths of the various team members, to improve patient care delivery.”
Creating a Well-Rounded Curriculum
As part of the team revamping the Miller School’s curriculum, Dr. Taldone helped integrate health systems science into a well-rounded education that includes evidence-based medicine, patient safety, and the business of medicine.
“Dr. Taldone exemplifies the values and vision of the Miller School of Medicine,” said Latha Chandran, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., executive dean for education and policy and the Bernard J. Fogel Chair in Medical Education at the Miller School. “Her dedication to clinical excellence, educational innovation and patient-centered care makes her uniquely qualified to succeed in this role, and her understanding of the business side of modern medicine will provide our students with a crucial element in their journey to becoming health care leaders.”
Dr. Taldone’s appointment reflects the Miller School’s commitment to excellence in clinical education and its mission to transform lives through teaching, research and service.
“I am committed to working with the Miller School to achieve new heights in innovative medical education and clinical practice. Together, we will shape medicine for the future,” she said.
