It was found that one in five people who passed the national medical examination (local time) were from a foreign medical school. This is due to the fact that the number of senior students in the main department of domestic medical school has decreased significantly due to the legislative conflict.

According to the data submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to the office of the Democratic Party of Korea, 52 (19.3%) of the 269 final successful candidates for the 89th doctor’s state exam announced on the 22nd were from foreign medical schools. By country, Hungarian medical school graduates accounted for the largest number of 39 people, and one or two people each graduated from medical schools in other countries such as the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom.

The increase in the proportion of foreign medical school graduates is a predicted result. This is because the majority of domestic medical students chose to take a leave of absence in protest of the government’s medical policies such as the increase in medical schools.

The number of applicants to take the national examination was 3,200, including 4th graders of domestic medical schools, those who failed the previous year’s exam, and graduates of foreign medical schools, but in reality, only about 10% of them took the exam.

This is because about 3,000 fourth-year students, most of the applicants, did not apply for a leave of absence.

The number of successful candidates for the 88th and 87th doctor’s state exams, which were previous rounds, was 3045 and 3181 respectively. Among them, the proportion of foreign medical school graduates was 25 and 32, respectively, accounting for only 1%.

The proportion of all successful applicants also increased, but the number of successful applicants from foreign medical schools itself more than doubled from last year.

Each training hospital is planning to recruit training interns in the first half of next month from the 3rd to the 4th for those who passed the national examination and resigned last year. Applications are expected to be low because there are few successful applicants and there is no movement for a large number of medical doctors to return.
